Tub Jet Cleaning: What's Lurking in Your Jacuzzi Tub?

Many people have jetted whirlpool or Jacuzzi tubs. These tubs have about 30 feet of piping wrapped around them. How to get this piping clean is a mystery to most. Almost all cleaners use chemicals to clean them.

However, the safest cleaning method uses the power of vapor steam to sanitize and blow excess water and gunk from the piping then heat the inside of the piping to kill germs that may linger.

The piping around the tub grows the same kinds of germs that a toilet bowl does. It is highly recommended that one clean the toilet bowl weekly. Wouldn’t it be wise to plan on cleaning the tub jets weekly as well?

The awesome power of vapor steam enters the biofilm of the bacteria, mold, algae, and destroys them, then blows the gunk out of your tub jets and piping.

No more flaking and chemicals, no more fear that something is lurking in your bath water. Just clean water.

Three Characteristics of a Good Helper

1. Honesty – Can you trust them?

When someone is trusted, you can count on him or her to do what he or she agrees to. If they are scheduled within a time window, they show up at the right time or call with a time that they can be there and ask if the new time will be okay. If they damage something they quickly let you know and offer a way to make it right. They leave your stuff and take only their stuff.

2. Committed to excellence - Do you have to point out errors or redo their work?

When someone is committed to excellence they will take the time necessary to do the project well. They will come up with innovative ways to make the work flow better and get better results. They are happy when the day is done knowing that they did their best.

3. Caring - Do they care about you or the organization?

They get enough sleep and are free of emotional baggage. They choose to serve your organization over a personal to do list. They are there when you need them.

“When a person shows you who they are, believe them.” Oprah

Helpers who do not have these three characteristics will make it difficult to provide the service that customers have a right to expect. I think that Oprah is right; when a helper fails in one or more of these characteristics it is best to find someone else to help you. I’ve noticed that people move away from people who demonstrate lack in any of these three areas. When you really like someone they probably strongly demonstrate all three of these characteristics.

Happy Cat Herders Day!

Is your life spent chasing down lots of odds and ends? Then this holiday is for you!

That’s right – December 15 is a holiday called “National Cat Herders Day.”

It was invented by a couple in California who have created several other whimsical holidays. Cat Herders Day was inaugurated to honor all of the
people in the world whose lives can be compared to the impossible task of herding cats. This time of year, especially, most of us can end up feeling
as if we’re chasing after a bunch of independent-minded felines.

I have mentioned this holiday before. I like to take time to honor people who literally herd cats, such as Zorro, who has about 11 cats at the moment
(plus a dog who thinks he’s a cat), and Teddy Bear, whose wife volunteers for his local Humane Society, with the result that at any time there may be a dozen or more cats around the house – permanent residents as well as foster “kids.”

Of course, no mention of Cat Herders Day would be complete without a link to the famous EDS Super Bowl commercial featuring tough, macho cat herders bringing in the herd.

And finally, if cat herding makes you think of those pesky stray cat hairs lurking around the house my cleaning service can take care of that! Of course, anyone who lives with cats knows that it is impossible to get all the hair, all the time.

Asset Gifts For the Holidays Last Longer Than Toys

In a bit of a departure from my usual eco-friendly cleaning tips, and in honor of the holiday season, I'd like to tell you about a gift that lasts a whole lot longer than a toy.

My grandson lives a vacation-type drive away. It is costly to buy and ship stuff. Plus there aren’t many toys that he doesn’t have. I’ve been doing some thinking and trying to define what is an asset and what is an expense. In the simplest terms you could ask the question, “Does it bring money in?” If the answer is “Yes” it is an asset. “No” it is an expense.

I’ve decided to spend my money on assets. So, here is my idea. We set up an account for my grandson. Recently our financial advisor found a stock that is in my grandson’s city and the company will hold their annual meetings there. We purchased several shares. The gift that he will receive is an actual stock certificate for a share that he owns.

I think this is a wise choice because he can look at the certificate and know that he owns an asset and he will be able to learn what it is like own a part of a business. If the business does well or not, he will be thinking a little differently than his peers. In addition he has a financial advisor that he can ask questions and know that he receives honest answers.

Contact me at geri@icleanhouse.com if you would like an introduction to a really good financial advisor.

Everyone Knows What Happens When You Assume!

Do all house cleaners make assumptions? Are they destined to write books about your house? This may be a strong motivator in not seeking house cleaning help.

As a house cleaner for many years, I’ve stopped assuming. Why, because 99.9999% of the time I missed the truth. House cleaning is not CSI we just wipe away the evidence.

I had a maid once that assumed that I eat a lot of popcorn. So she bought me a bag of it for a gift. Not my favorite thing in the world. OOPS! I had another house cleaner assume that I never cook because my stove was so clean. Wrong! We rarely ate out; I just had the habit of cleaning after meals.

I feel really strongly about this, customers have the right to privacy and assumptions (no matter how innocent) invade that. The homes I clean have things in common. For example: Bath rooms with fixtures, faucets, towels, walls, personal care items and a theme. In addition: cleaning the same stuff becomes common and nothing to talk about. All houses are beautiful after they are cleaned.

A professional house cleaner (maid) will value your trust and will not make assumptions about who you are or what you do.

The ONLY Way to Kill the H1N1 Virus

How close and how long do you need to steam a hard surface to kill H1N1?

I recently watched an infomercial that showed someone cleaning from about 1 foot away and for a fraction of a second. They claimed that it kills 99.9% of germs. I tried it today on my hand: it felt a little hot but didn't burn.

Lets get real! You must steam very close to the surface for at least 2 seconds (preferably 5 seconds) to kill H1N1. I tell you this because it is scary to have people thinking a warm gentle breeze will kill germs.

Clinical studies report that extreme hot and extreme cold is the only way to “KILL” germs. Vapor steam enters the biofilms and destroys the cell making it impossible to revive. This death occurs within 2 seconds of exposure. CHEMICALS cannot do this. (These films are slightly resistant to almost all germicides—surprisingly, even bleach, according to Scientific American magazine.)

The steam penetrates into pores and other areas most chemicals cannot reach. The protective biofilms produced by germs on kitchen, restroom, and other surfaces to shield themselves from harm are penetrated and removed easily with hot, moist, steam vapor, according to Rick Hoverson, principal of Advanced Vapor Technologies, Edmonds, WA.

In addition there are NO germicides that are non-toxic.

If you are using vapor steam to clean with, please get close enough to the surface and steam long enough to effectively heat the surface and kill those germs!
